Could my child have ADHD?

Signs parents notice, what ADHD isn't, and how the assessment pathway works in the UK.

ADHD presents in many ways, and it doesn't always look like the stereotype. Difficulty starting tasks, emotional intensity, restlessness, distractibility, hyperfocus on preferred activities - patterns matter more than single moments.

If a pattern feels persistent and affects life across more than one setting (home and school), it's worth exploring formally. In the UK that usually means a GP referral to a community paediatrician or CAMHS, or a private assessment route.

A diagnosis isn't a label - it's a tool. It can unlock understanding, school support and, if appropriate, treatment. It can also help a child make sense of themselves.
